HOT BATH TO BERRIES

 


When weather gets hot we generally find ourselves having berries by basketful. Even with healthy appetite and refrigeration, berries which are not eaten can go moldy overnight. There is one way by which we can stop onset of fuzzy fungus with pesticides, but give a hot bath to your berries before storing them. This process is called “thermotherapy” which simply involves swishing and immersing of berries in a plastic basket in a pot with hot water. Hot water helps to kill off mold and keep berries fresh for longer time. Raspberries, blueberries and strawberries farely best at temperature of 125 degree for 30 seconds. After bathing of berries in hot water, spread them on a towel and let them to breathe and store.

TOMATOES SHOULD BE OUT OF REFRIGERATOR

Tomatoes are very important ingredient of every dish, but to keep them as fresh is very difficult task in summers. SToring potatoes in fridge seems like a sure fire method to keep them longer and fresher but you need to think again. Our most common mistake while storing food is to keep tomatoes in refrigerator, in fact to keep them in cold temperature is rid of them from their own flavor and transforms its texture in few couple of days. So instead by putting them in a bowl which you have lined up with a paper towel using the stems at top. Most soft part of fruit is around the stem, which makes this part likely as bruise and leads to rotting. Another important factor is “Temperature”, to store tomatoes room temperature plays a very good role, keep tomatoes away from heat sources like direct sunlight. By doing this your tomatoes will stay fresh for 1 week.

KEEP YOUR LEAFY GREENS WRAPPED

Green veggies should be consumed within 1 or 2 days when you purchase just to ensure that freshness and all nutrients should present when you eat. But when you think about to store these veggies, the very best way is to extend life of these green veggies is to wrap unwashed leaves in a paper towel so that towel may absorb excess moisture. After doing this put towel with veggies in it in a plastic bag and store in fridge. Your veggies will remain fresh for long time and will not lose any nutrients from them.

REFRESH HERBS AND LETTUCE USING ICE BATH

If your green veggies started to look like wilted due to cold temperature of your refrigerator, you can easily get them refreshed by giving then an ice bath. It is very simple process just place lettuce leaves in a large bowl having ice water and shake green around to revive them. It will take 1 or 2 minutes to revive and to look fresh.

FREEZE FRUITS AND VEGGIES

Of you think that you are overestimated that how quickly you consume your purchases, don’t get down. Just chop these ripened veggies and fruits and freeze them for use on any future occasion. You can freeze a number of items like bananas, blueberries, strawberries, mushrooms, eggplant,  onions, cucumbers, celery, cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli, green beans and bell peppers. Just one thing to make sure that you recoil these veggies in hot water before sticking in below freezing temperature.
